This is my second Creative Writing course i had to take in order to make up my grade for the first time i took the course. When i was registering for classes, i remember finding myself in the rate my professors website so i could take advantage and enroll with the best quality teacher Lehman College has to offer. I come across Professor Sidibe and i read her reviews, a bunch of people loved her, so i told myself “why not give it a try?”
It was one of the best choices i made.
In her class, students were given the opportunity to be themselves without anyone judging each other. Spreading positivity and comfort was the energy Professor Sidibe encouraged us to have, and it was a pleasure for me to be her student. I’m usually a kind of shy, but more of a quiet student, so it will sometimes kill me when i have to present or even talk in front of the class, even though i knew everyone were going to go through the same thing eventually. That never helped, haha.
I did not have trouble writing about most of the assignments, but the only one that gave me trouble was the poems. Who knew that a piece so short would give somebody so many problems? It took me a good 30 minutes or so to work out a few stanzas. But with all the other assignments, the fiction, memoir, and dialogue, i found myself becoming more open and creative with myself. It wasn’t just me being inside my own shell and not voicing my ideas/opinions. With all of the pieces that i wrote and also doing the activities in the classroom, it allowed me to open up and also be happy with the stuff that i’m doing.
I first thought that doing an online portfolio was a little bit too much, since i’m used to doing a old school folder portfolio, but i learned that it is not. Something that i yet have to learn is to be an open-minded person and be open to new ideas. I had fun creating and customizing this website!
Thank you so much Professor Sidibe for an amazing semester! I will make sure to not second guess your work, you definitively know what you’re doing!
